On the thirty-fourth episode we have Matt Williams. Matt is a man of many things, he is a husband, father and a brother. However, the list does not end there.
Matt founded a program called the ‘Chin Up Project’. Which is a youth based program that focuses on individuals who are disengaged from mainstream processes and pathways or are at risk of being disengaged. The program also engages with young people who are involved in the criminal justice system. Their program also expands in too many other areas of need for young people as well.
Matt runs a MMA gym in Torquay, called The Boneyard. The gym is located at 36/309 Cylinders Way in Torquay. The gym specialises in Muay Thai, Kickboxing and MMA. Matt used to fight professionally, but now he spends his time coaching others through the same pathway. Finally, through all the programs he runs his primary focus is helping others find their potential! As he believes this can be the strongest motivating factor to help any individual succeed.
Matt shares his journey through life explaining how he has been able to achieve the many great things he has done; Matt starts us off by explaining what The Boneyard is, he then shares the influence of role models and how they shape you as an individual. Matt then runs us through what the ‘Chin Up Project’ is and what it stands for, he breaks down the importance of working with youth in THEIR environment rather than trying to work with them in YOUR environment. Matt also highlights the need of allowing yourself to be vulnerable when dealing with young people and the role modelling that this provides. Lastly, Matt explains to us what he thinks individuals need to understand when dealing with people and finally, the importance of winning and losing.
